1. Build Relationships With your Superiors

It's always beneficial to make friends with your co-workers, but establishing strong professional relationships with your bosses will help you get promoted quicker than anything else. When you have a lot of contact with your superiors, it will be easier for them to notice your efforts. It goes without saying that you must be competent at your current job in order to develop any meaningful relationships with higher rank employees.

2. Do More than What is Asked of You

One sure way to grab the attention of your superiors is to do more than what you were hired to do. You can do this in many different ways. Coming into work early and leaving later, asking for more duties, and assisting your co-workers are just some ways to show your bosses that you're hardworking and committed. Nothing will get you fired quicker than acting unprofessionally in the workplace. You must have respect for the work, your company, your co-workers, and your superiors. Things like arriving to work late, failure to show up without notice, dressing inappropriately, using profanity, and getting physical are all very unprofessional behaviors. 4. Steer Clear of Office Politics

Every workplace has cliques, but you should try not to choose sides. Avoid getting involved in office politics if at all possible. Otherwise, you could be seen as a troublemaker, and nobody likes a troublemaker. You want to seem involved and interested in the people you work with, but you never want to end up in the middle of a caddy situation.

5. Vocalize your Intentions

If you really want to advance your career, let your superiors know what your plans are for the future. If nobody is aware of your intentions, they cannot help you realize your dreams. A boss might offer to mentor you to develop your skills or refer you for further training if you show promise. These small changes can open up career options for the future and give you a  better payout at the company.

When it comes down to it, getting promoted is the result of hard work. If you put in 100% effort each day on the job, you'll grab the attention of someone in an important position sooner or later. Prove yourself valuable to an organization, and the promotion will follow naturally.
