5 Reasons to Choose a Career As a Sales Person

Sales is a highly appealing career field for many people. Here are five good reasons why you may want to consider a career in sales:

More freedom

When you work in sales, as long as you are producing, you usually have the freedom to set your own work schedule. This can be a great advantage for someone with a family, or who is attending school, or has other commitments which also require time. The only trade-off is that part-time sales positions generally do not pay as well as full-time opportunities.

Fewer coworker issues

As a salesperson, you can often find positions which need less interaction with others at the office. This alone can prevent much stress, as being present less often means others will value your presence more when you are at the office. Furthermore, even when spend most of your time with customers, most sales positions allow you to meet more people than those who have a desk job.

Travel opportunities

One of the nicer things about a sales career is the chance to travel to other parts of the country, or to completely different countries. While too much travel can become tiresome, you also have the chance to see how people in other parts of the world are operating, so you are always gaining new knowledge which you might not otherwise be exposed to. This also makes it more likely that you will run across other business opportunities, than if you are stationary at the same office each day.

Great pay

Top producers in sales are often well-compensated for their efforts. Since no long-term revenues come in without someone in the company selling something, sales is one area where companies have to keep the best people, if they wish to remain in business. The only downside is that if your pay is mostly commission-based, there can be large fluctuations in your pay from month-to-month.

Training to be your own boss

Sales is often a great background to have, before starting your own new venture. Since you learn how to bring in more revenue, you can always improve results, or recognize which offerings customers want instead. Similarly, the ability to keep multiple customers satisfied (shareholders, customers, and employees, among others) is a highly useful skill to have when you are running the business. Getting the support of others can by itself be the difference between success and failure in business.

Explained differently, flexible work schedules, fewer problems with colleagues, more travel possibilities, excellent pay, and the chance to be your own boss are all great reasons to consider a career in sales. So, if you have never considered this career field before, you may want to in the near future.
